Okay, so, I've been seeing these crinkle dog toys everywhere, and my pup goes absolutely nuts for anything that makes noise. But, and this is a big but, the squeakers in most toys? They last, like, five minutes. Tops. So, I thought, "Why not try making some crinkle toys without the squeaker hassle?" Here's how it went down.

First Things First: Gather the Gear

• Fabric scraps: I raided my fabric stash. Old t-shirts, flannel remnants – whatever you have lying around.
• Crinkle material: This is key. I used empty potato chip bags, washed super thoroughly (like, three times!) and dried. You can also buy crinkle material online, but I'm cheap.
• Scissors
• Sewing machine (or needle and thread if you're feeling ambitious)
• Stuffing: I had some leftover pillow stuffing.

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric

I decided on a simple bone shape. Drew a basic bone outline on a piece of paper, then used that as a template to cut out two pieces of fabric for each toy. You can make any shape you want – a circle, a square, a star… whatever floats your boat (and your dog’s).

Step 2: Crinkle Time!

This is the fun part. I took my washed and dried potato chip bags and cut them into smaller pieces, roughly the size of my hand. Then, I layered the crinkle material between the two pieces of fabric. Make sure the crinkle material is smaller than the fabric, you don’t want it poking out of the seams.

Step 3: Sewing It Up

Step 4: Stuffing and Finishing

I stuffed the toy with the pillow stuffing. Don’t overstuff it, you still want it to be crinkly! Once it was stuffed to my liking, I carefully sewed up the opening. Again, no need for perfection. Just make sure it's closed securely.

Step 5: Test Time!

The moment of truth! I tossed the toy to my dog. He went absolutely bonkers! The crinkle sound was a hit, and he happily chewed and tossed the toy around. Success!

These crinkle toys are super easy and cheap to make. Plus, they're way more durable than the squeaky ones. My dog's been playing with his crinkle bone for days, and it's still going strong.
