So, I got this idea the other day. Saw one of those fancy Clase Azul tequila bottles, you know, the white and blue ceramic ones? And I thought, man, that shape would make a pretty funny dog toy. My dog, Buster, he goes through toys like crazy, so I'm always looking for something new, something maybe a bit tougher or just different.

First, I looked online to see if someone already made one. Found a few, yeah, but jeez, the prices. Felt kinda silly spending that much on something Buster would likely shred in a week. Plus, none of them looked quite right, you know? Too flimsy, wrong shade of blue. So, I figured, why not try making one myself? How hard could it be?

My DIY Adventure

Okay, step one was materials. I dug through my old fabric box. Found some sturdy-ish blue canvas leftover from another project. Not the perfect Clase Azul blue, but close enough for a dog toy, right? Then needed some white stuff for the swirly bits and the top. Had some white felt scraps. Perfect.

• Grabbed the blue canvas.
• Found white felt pieces.
• Got my sewing kit out – needle, thread, scissors.
• Needed stuffing and a squeaker – raided an old toy Buster had already 'de-fluffed'. Reduce, reuse, recycle, eh?

Next, the shape. This was trickier than I thought. That bottle has curves. I sketched a rough outline on paper, trying to get that distinct look. Cut out two pieces of the blue canvas based on my template. Probably should've measured more carefully, but hey, it's for a dog.

Then I started sewing. Just a simple hand stitch around the edges, leaving the bottom open. My sewing's not great, pretty rough actually, but it holds. I sewed the two blue pieces together, inside out first. Flipped it right side out. Looked vaguely bottle-shaped. Good enough!

For the white details, I cut out some wavy strips from the felt and a circle for the 'bell' top. This part got fiddly. Tried fabric glue first. Messy. Ended up just doing a few rough stitches to tack the white felt onto the blue body. Looked a bit homemade, but kinda charming, I guess.

Stuffing time! Shoved the recycled fluff in there, making sure it was packed tight enough to hold the shape. Popped the salvaged squeaker somewhere in the middle. Then I stitched the bottom closed. Had to wrestle with it a bit to get the needle through the thick canvas at the end.

Took a step back. Okay, it wasn't a perfect replica. Looked more like a lumpy blue bowling pin with some white squiggles. But hey, it had a squeaker, and it was blue-ish.

Gave it to Buster. He sniffed it. Looked at me, looked at the toy. Then he grabbed it and ran off, squeaking it like mad. Thrashed it around for a good ten minutes. Success! It actually held up better than I expected, probably because of that tough canvas.

It’s funny, you know. Spending an hour or so making this goofy thing. Reminds me of when I was a kid, always making stuff out of cardboard boxes or whatever junk was lying around. There's something satisfying about making something with your own hands, even if it's just a lopsided dog toy that vaguely resembles expensive tequila. Better than just clicking 'buy now', sometimes. Buster certainly didn't care it wasn't store-bought perfection.
