Why Is My Dog Shaking and Hiding? Common Causes!
Okay, so yesterday was kinda weird with my dog, Max. He's usually a happy dude, always wagging his tail and begging for belly rubs, but yesterday? Nope. He was all shaky and tried to hide under the bed. It freaked me out, man.

First thing I did was try to figure out what was up. I started by checking him over for any obvious injuries. You know, feeling around his legs, his back, looking in his ears. Nada. Nothing seemed physically wrong. That was a relief, but also super confusing.
Then, I started thinking about what had changed. Had he eaten something weird? Did something scare him? We didn't go anywhere new, and he ate his regular kibble. The only thing different was the thunderstorm we had in the afternoon. Max isn't usually bothered by storms, but I figured maybe it was louder than I thought.
So, I tried comforting him. I sat on the floor next to the bed and just talked to him in a calm voice. I offered him his favorite toy, a squeaky hedgehog, but he just looked at me with those big, sad eyes. He wouldn't even take a treat! That's when I knew something was really off.
I googled "why is my dog shaking and hiding" – yeah, I'm that dog owner. The internet suggested everything from anxiety to poisoning. Poisoning? I panicked a little. I checked the yard for anything he might have gotten into, but everything looked normal. No weird plants or anything.
I decided to monitor him closely. I kept him inside with me, made sure he had fresh water, and just tried to keep the environment calm. No loud music, no sudden movements. I just chilled on the couch and watched some dumb TV.
After a few hours, he started to relax a little. The shaking subsided, and he eventually came out from under the bed and curled up next to me on the couch. He still seemed a bit on edge, but he wasn't actively hiding anymore.
This morning, he seems almost back to normal. He ate his breakfast, wagged his tail (a little), and even chased a squirrel in the yard. I'm still keeping a close eye on him, but I think it was probably just the storm that spooked him more than I realized. Or maybe he had a bad dream? Who knows with dogs, right?
Anyway, that's my little saga. Lesson learned: even if your dog seems fine with something, they might not be. Always good to pay attention to those little changes in behavior.
