Alright, let me tell you about this crazy thing I tried out – making a dog toy that looks like a Bark ice cream! I saw some pictures online and thought, "Hey, my doggo deserves some summer fun too!" Plus, you know, anything to keep her from chewing my shoes.

First off, I had to gather my supplies. This wasn't exactly rocket science, but I wanted to make sure it was safe and durable. I grabbed some old t-shirts (the ones I was about to donate anyway), a squeaker from a busted toy (don't judge my dog's demolition skills!), some strong thread, and my trusty sewing needle. Oh, and stuffing! Gotta have the fluff.

Next up, the design. I ain't no artist, but I figured a cone shape was easy enough. I cut out a triangle-ish shape from one of the t-shirts for the cone, and a round-ish blob from another for the "ice cream". I wasn't aiming for perfection, just something vaguely resembling the real deal.

Then came the sewing. Now, I'm not a pro sewer, but I can manage a basic stitch. I sewed the edges of the triangle together to form the cone, leaving the top open. Flipped it inside out so the seams wouldn't show (trying to be fancy here!). Then, I started stuffing the cone with, well, stuffing. Nice and firm, like a good ice cream cone should be.

For the "ice cream," I sewed around the edge of the circle, leaving a small opening. Stuffing time again! I packed that thing full and then slipped the squeaker in there for extra fun. Sewed up the hole, making sure it was nice and tight. Don't want the little rascal ripping it open in 5 minutes.

The final step was attaching the ice cream to the cone. This was a little tricky, but I just eyeballed it and sewed the ice cream blob onto the top of the cone. Made sure it was secure. Added a few extra stitches, just in case.

And boom! Bark ice cream dog toy. It looked kinda janky, but my dog LOVED it. She went nuts for the squeaker and happily chewed on it for a good hour before passing out. Success!

Things I learned:

  • Use stronger thread next time. My stitches were okay, but I could tell they might not hold up forever.
  • Maybe try different textures of fabric. A bit of crinkly material inside would be fun.
  • My dog doesn't care if it's pretty, she just wants to chew.

Overall, a fun and easy project. Plus, it saved me some money on buying a new toy. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for something to keep your furry friend entertained!
