My Dog's 7-in-1 Shot Day
Alright, so let me tell you about giving my dog, Buster, his 7-in-1 shot the other day. Going to the vet is just such a hassle, you know? Buster gets all worked up, I get stressed, and my wallet feels lighter afterwards. I've done basic shots before on farm animals back in the day, so I figured, how hard can this be?

First thing, I made sure I had the right stuff. Picked up the 7-in-1 vaccine from the local farm supply place. Checked the expiration date, everything looked good. Kept it in the fridge like the instructions said until it was time.
When the day came, I waited till Buster was pretty chill. He was just lying around after his morning walk. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I got the vaccine out, let it warm up just a tiny bit, not too much. Then I got the needle ready. Just followed the basic steps: pop the top, stick the needle in, draw the liquid up. Tapped out any air bubbles, you know the drill.
Now the tricky part. I decided the easiest spot was the loose skin around his shoulders, the scruff. My wife helped keep him steady, petting him and talking to him. He was mostly okay, just looking around wondering what was up.
Giving the Shot
- I grabbed a good pinch of skin.
- Quickly poked the needle in. Not too deep, just under the skin.
- Pushed the plunger steadily until it was all in.
- Pulled the needle straight out.
He definitely felt it, gave a little yelp and turned his head quick. But it was over in like, two seconds. Immediately after, lots of praise, "Good boy, Buster!", and his favorite treat. He forgot about the poke pretty fast once the snack appeared.
I kept an eye on him for the rest of the day. Checked the spot for any big swelling or redness. Looked for any signs he wasn't feeling well, like being super tired or off his food. Thankfully, he was totally fine. Maybe a little quieter than usual for an hour or two, but that was it. By evening, he was back to his normal goofy self, chasing his tail.
So yeah, that was my experience doing the 7-in-1 myself. Saved some money and stress. It wasn't too bad, really. Just gotta be calm, quick, and know what you're doing, or at least follow the instructions carefully. And have treats ready. Lots of treats.
