Raising Biscuit: Tips for caring for a dog named Biscuit.
So, I found myself thinking the house was just too darn quiet. Just me, the walls, and the TV droning on. Got this idea in my head, maybe a dog? Sounded good for about five seconds, then I remembered the work involved. Walking, feeding, cleaning up messes. Put it off for a bit.

But the quiet kept getting to me. Finally decided, alright, let's just look. Went down to the local shelter, not really expecting much. Saw a bunch of dogs, big ones, small ones, loud ones. Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming. Then I spotted this little guy, kinda tan, floppy ears, looked a bit confused by the whole thing. He wasn't jumping or barking like the others, just watching.
Something about him clicked. Filled out the paperwork, felt like I was signing my life away, but did it anyway. Brought him home. First few days? Total chaos. Seriously. Chewed on a shoe, had an accident on the rug I really liked, whined at night. I thought, "What have I done?"
Getting the Name Right
Didn't have a name for him yet. Tried a few classics out loud. Max? Nope. Buddy? Nah. He just ignored me. I'd bought a box of cheap dog biscuits, the plain kind. He seemed obsessed with them. Kept nudging the box, sniffing around it. One afternoon, totally frustrated with the chewed furniture, I just looked at him staring at the box and muttered, "Alright, Biscuit, you want one?" And bam! His head snaps up, ears perked, tail gives a little thump-thump. It was like a lightbulb went off. So, Biscuit it was. Simple as that.
- Brought him home.
- Realized the chewing was serious.
- Tried fancy names, got nothing.
- He loved the biscuit box.
- Called him Biscuit, and it stuck.
Started some basic training after that. Sit, stay, come here. It was slow going. Lots of repeating myself. Used those darn biscuits as treats, which felt kinda funny. He's still got his moments, definitely keeps me on my toes. Dug a hole in the backyard yesterday. But the house isn't quiet anymore, that's for sure. He's just... Biscuit. Fits him, you know? It wasn't some grand plan, just happened. Turned out okay, though. Definitely learned some patience.
