Is a squeaky dog snake toy a good choice? See why this type keeps dogs endlessly entertained.
Alright, so I decided to get one of those long snake toys for my dog the other day. Saw it hanging there in the pet aisle, looked kinda silly but also like something he might actually go for. My dog, Buddy, he tends to either ignore toys completely or absolutely shred them in minutes, there's like, no in-between.

Got home, took the tag off the thing. It was pretty long, maybe three feet? Felt a bit flimsy, honestly. I tossed it onto the floor near him. He just kinda looked at it. Then looked at me. Like, "Okay? And?". Not the explosive reaction I secretly hoped for.
First Contact and Playtime
He eventually gave it a cautious sniff. Nudged it with his nose. Then, he gently picked up the tail end. Carried it over to his bed like it was some fragile treasure. Okay, maybe not shredding it instantly was a good sign? Sat there just kinda holding it for a bit.
Then the shaking started. You know, the head-thrashing, toy-flopping-everywhere move. This snake thing was perfect for that, being so long and floppy. He seemed to really enjoy whipping it around. Didn't take long for him to find the squeaker hidden in the head. Oh boy, the squeaker. That changed the game. Suddenly it was less about thrashing, more about strategic squeaking.
- He definitely liked the long shape for shaking.
- The squeaker was a massive hit (for him, maybe less for me after 10 minutes).
- He seemed to focus chewing on the head part, probably because of the squeaker.
This went on for a solid half hour. Which, for Buddy, is ages for a new toy. He carried it around the house, squeaking intermittently. Looked pretty pleased with himself, I gotta say.
The Aftermath and Verdict
So, how's the snake holding up? Surprisingly well, actually. It's been a few days now. The squeaker still works, much to my ears' dismay. There are a few teeth marks, especially around the head section, but no major rips or tears yet. He hasn't pulled any stuffing out, which is honestly a minor miracle. He still picks it up and gives it a good shake now and then, or just carries it to his bed.
Was it worth the few bucks? Yeah, I think so. It's lasted longer than I expected, and he actually seems to like it consistently, not just for five minutes. It's not indestructible, I can see weak points starting, but it's given him some good fun. Definitely better than some of the expensive "tough" toys that lasted less time. If you've got a dog that likes to shake and squeak, one of these silly snake things might be worth a try.
